COVERED UP AN UNJUSTIFIED AND UNPROVOKED ATTACK OF AN INMATE
SS (33), a former Tennessee Department of Correction officer, was sentenced in mid-February to 15 months in prison (and 2 years of supervised release) for falsifying a report about another officer’s use of “excessive force” – apparently, without provocation or justification, his fellow officer broke an inmate's jaw while punching the guy in the head.
In October 2023, SS pleaded guilty to his misconduct, which included “obstructing an investigation” of the incident.
In a written statement, Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division noted that “The defendant pledged to protect and serve but instead he abused his authority as a corrections officer to try to cover up another officer’s use of excessive force …. This sentence sends a clear message that the Justice Department will hold accountable any official who obstructs a federal civil rights investigation.”
Think his jaw dropped when sentence was pronounced?
