FACE 5 YEARS IN PRISON, AND $250,000 FINE
Hailing from Alabama, Florida and Georgia, fourteen men were indicted and arrested in late February for their alleged roles in a dog-fighting event.
Apparently, on April 22, 2022, these defendants are said to have brought some 24 dogs to Donalsonville, Georgia, to participate in a series of fighting matches.
According to a press release issued by the United States Department of Justice, it is “illegal not only to fight dogs in a venture that affects interstate commerce, but also to possess, train, transport, deliver, sell, purchase or receive dogs for fighting purposes.”
If convicted, the men face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine per count of animal fighting charges, while another man faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on a firearm charge.
An indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
It’s clearly a dog-eat-dog world ….
