MOTHER’S UNTREATED MENTAL ILLNESS PUT KIDS IN JEOPARDY

SHE WAS FOUND TO HAVE NEGLECTED HER CHILDREN

After the Bronx County Family Court concluded (subsequent to a fact-finding hearing) that the mother had neglected her kids, an appeal followed.

On its review, the Appellate Division, First Department, noted that the “credible evidence” supported the conclusion that the mother had placed her young ones “at imminent risk of impairment of their physical, mental, or emotion health.”

Apparently, the untreated mom’s mental illness triggered her to believe that her kids were being sexually molested and/or abused by strangers, and that resulted in the youngsters being subjected to repeated evaluations and examinations by medical professionals, child protective services, and the NYPD.

Deferring to the Family Court's credibility findings, and given that the mother had a full and fair opportunity to be heard, the AD1 left the underlying neglect finding undisturbed.

Looks like that mother could really use an examination of her own.
