GOT THREE TO NINE YEARS IN PRISON
MW, the alleged leader of a Queens “deed theft ring,” was convicted and sentenced to three to nine years in prison, on July 12, 2024, for his role in conveying real property, and purloining over $1 million in sales proceeds, without permission of the actual owners.
Apparently, MW would prey on estates, and property owned by the elderly and vulnerable, and would select homes that were in “distressed” condition and sell them at below-market prices. To perpetrate the scam, and complete the sales transactions, he along with members his team would use phony identification – like driver’s ids and social security cards.
By way of a written statement, Attorney General Letitia James noted that, “New Yorkers should never have to fear losing their homes to deceitful schemes like deed theft …. Marcus Wilcher and his associates targeted elderly and vulnerable New Yorkers with a predatory scheme that inflicted significant financial and emotional harm. New Yorkers work their entire lives to secure a home, and deed theft threatens to rob them of the generational wealth they have built for their families. I am proud of my office’s work to put a stop to this fraud displacing our most vulnerable communities, and I will continue working to keep New Yorkers safe and secure in their homes.”
That sure was one awful deed.
