AWARD-WINNING ANIMATION TO SCREEN AT JFFLA
THE JAPAN FILM FESTIVAL – LOS ANGELES (JFFLA) got its start back in 2003, when it was originally known as the Chanoma Film Festival — with “Chanoma” referring to a gathering place (like a living room) in a Japanese home.

The organization’s mission is to strengthen the “general understanding of Japanese culture and traditions among American and Japanese audiences in Los Angeles.” And to that end, its 19th annual event, which will be held from September 1 – 15, 2024, will offer a mix of online and in-person screenings.

In addition to streaming electronically, on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 3:30 PM (PDT), DRAGONLY — an animated short written and directed by Julia Morizawa — will be presented at Japan House, 6801 Hollywood Boulevard, Level 5.

Inspired by the lives of Julia’s maternal grandparents, and the stories her mom shared about growing up on the family farm in Japan, this unique work examines the devastating impact of the Tokyo Firebombing of March 9-10, 1945, and addresses “the generational trauma of war, the power of family, and finding the strength to rise from the ashes.”
