SANDIA SETTLES EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION SUIT FOR $97,500

OWNERS CALLED WOMEN “FAT UGLY BITCHES” AND F*CKING LESBIANS"

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) recently announced that Sandia Transportation has agreed to resolve an “employment discrimination” suit filed by the agency.

The company is said to have subjected female workers to “disparaging and discriminatory comments.” In addition to an employee being harassed because she “associated” with lesbian employees, the owners is said to have referred to the workers as “f*ckin’ lesbians” and “fat ugly bitches.” He is also alleged to have said that “women like [them] would be killed in [his] country” and that he hated “f*ckin’ dealing with women.”

When complaints were filed, the impacted women were “collectively terminated.”

Believing that such conduct violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the EEOC filed the suit in EEOC v. Sandia Transportation, LLC, Civil Action No. 1:23-cv-00274-MV-GJF, in U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, seeking monetary damages and injunctive relief.

In addition to a monetary payment of $97,500, the company has agreed to modify its employment and training-related practices.

In a written statement, Regional Attorney Mary Jo O’Neill of the EEOC’s Phoenix District Office, noted that, “We are pleased that the EEOC and Sandia Transportation have reached a resolution the includes monetary relief for the women affected by Sandia’s conduct and that Sandia Transportation will change its policies and procedures …. The EEOC remains committed to rooting out discriminatory conduct in the workplace and to protecting the rights of women and LGBTQ+ workers.”

Bet Sandia wasn’t in a transport of delight about that …..
