Phoenix Rising International Film Festival seeks “to create one of the go-to events for indie short filmmakers.” As noted on Film Freeway, their mission is “to celebrate the art of storytelling, providing a platform where emerging filmmakers can share their unique voices and visions …. It’s not just about watching films; it’s about celebrating excellence in the world of indie cinema.”

At this year’s festivities — which are scheduled from November 4-5, 2023, at the Rich Mix (35-47 Bethnal Green Rd, London) — you’ll find “DON’T CHOKE,” a short film written and directed by Sonny Baez.

In this “dramedy,” Sonny explores “the toxicity, violence and passion surrounding the end of a marriage.” And he depicts a couple’s child-custody battle in a unique way.
