COMPANY REFUSED TO HIRE ANYONE OVER 40
Meathead Movers, Inc., which is based out of San Luis Obispo, California, was recently sued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for age discrimination because they allegedly refused to hire anyone over 40 years of age.
Apparently, the company had a “pattern or practice” of “recruiting and hiring young college students, intentionally excluding older workers regardless of their individual abilities.”
Since that conduct was believed to violate the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the EEOC filed suit (EEOC v. Meathead Movers, Inc., Case No.: 2:23-cv-08177) in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, seeking monetary damages and injunctive relief.
In a written statement, Anna Park, regional attorney for EEOC's Los Angeles District Office, noted that “Excluding older workers based on their age for marketing purposes is unlawful …. Employers should remember that setting criteria and recruiting based on a person’s age violates federal law.”
This will get old, pretty fast.
