When we asked our waiter at FILOMENA RISTORANTE — which is in the heart of Georgetown (1063 Wisconsin Avenue, NW Washington, D.C.) — what was the best pasta dish on the menu, he immediately identified the “LINGUINI CARDINALE.”
▫️
Described on the menu as one of President Bill Clinton’s “favorites,” the dish consists of “Lobster Meat in our exclusive Creamy Cardinale Lobster Sauce over Linguini Pasta ~ Magnificent, and ours Exclusively Since 1983!” ($59.99 pre-tax/tip).
▫️
After spaghetti, many consider linguine the world’s second-most popular pasta. Traditionally made from durum wheat semolina and water, it’s believed to have originated in Liguria (Genoa). And while it literally means “little tongues,” in Italian, there was no tonguing going on here.
▫️
Even though we thought the lobster was nicely prepared, the pasta was overcooked, and the accompanying sauce shamefully overwhelmed the dish. A guest correctly noted that the “lobster was too good for this dish,” but given the EXORBITANT price point ($72, post-tax/tip), and the fact that the combination didn’t work for us, it ended up rating a lowly “C-.” (I thought this soupy mess deserved an “F.”)
▫️
Now, please, keep your tongues off that!
