COMPANY RECEIVED SOME 329 WARNINGS THAT ITS ROBOCALLS VIOLATED FEDERAL LAW
On May 23, 2023, the New York State Attorney General’s Office announced that it had joined with the offices of other state attorneys general -- identified below* -- in filing suit against Arizona-based Avid Telecom, and its owners, for engaging in some 24.5 billion allegedly illegal robocalls (during the period December 2018 and January 2023), including 7.5 billion to numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry.
The litigation, which was initiated in the U.S. District Court of Arizona, seeks to enjoin Avid from continuing with any illegal practices, and further demands civil penalties, restitution, and damages.
In a written statement, Attorney General Leticia James noted, “Americans are sick and tired of their phones ringing off the hook with fraudulent robocalls …. Seniors and vulnerable consumers have been scammed out of millions because of these illegal robocalls. Today we are suing Avid Telecom for facilitating these annoying and illegal calls and for hurting ordinary Americans. I am proud to stand with my colleagues to protect consumers and put an end to this national nuisance.”
How Avidly awful …
