“CELLO CONCERTO,” a new short film written and directed by Marta Kalnina, was originally inspired by her training with a “monstrous” cello instructor. In this story, she explores what can happen when a teacher’s professional aspirations are unfulfilled, and psychological needs are left unaddressed. It also examines the dysfunction that arises when the quest for accolades and awards becomes an instructor’s overriding obsession.
While the production wrapped some two years ago, Marta recently announced that the film will finally have its world premiere on August 2, 2023, at 19:00, at the Splendid Palace cinema, in Riga, Latvia. [A Baltic state, Latvia is bordered by Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, Russia to the east, Belarus to the southeast, and shares a maritime border with Sweden to the west.]
