If you happen to be in Tokyo, and are looking for an unparalleled sushi experience, you must visit “Ise Sueyoshi” — 4-2-15 Nishiazabu, Minato — owned and operated by “culinary prodigy,” Chef Yuuki Tanaka.
Much like French haute cuisine, Tanaka offers “kaiseki” — a multi-course meal filled with “pomp and circumstance” and some meticulous food prep — for a fixed price of about $150 (US) per person (sake pairing $33 pp additional).
Over some two hours, you can expect a “seasonal” appetizer, side dish, sashimi, soup, grilled dish, “refresh” dish, rice, dessert; all beautifully presented.
Next up was Tanaka’s “Spanish mackerel” — served with Sudachi citrus and Karasumi (cured fish eggs).
Because this oily fish is full of omega-3 fatty acids, and essential vitamins and minerals, some consider mackerel among the healthiest seafood options available.
In the masterful hands of Chef Tanaka, this sashimi exuded a creamy, rich flavor which was enhanced by the sharpness of the citrus and the salinity of the accompanying fish roe.
Since we greatly enjoyed the array of distinct flavors, and again appreciated the freshness, this dish also rated an “A.”
