While Beauty & Essex has restaurants in New York (Lower East Side), and Hollywood (California), since we were in Vegas, we thought we’d give their place, on the third floor of the Cosmopolitan Hotel, a try.
Hidden behind an unmarked door, in a “pawn-inspired retail shop,” (where one-of-a-kind items are actually for sale), you’ll find this interesting “speakeasy,” “clubby” space.
Even though we liked the joint’s layout, decor, and “feel,” that’s about where our enjoyment ended. We didn’t quite get the “multi-ethnic inspired cuisine.” (It was all over the place.)
At our waiter’s suggestion, we went with the “Tuna Poke Wonton Tacos” — chiffonade cilantro, radish, wasabi kewpie ($19).
Because the wasabi overwhelmed these puny, bite-sized, overpriced tacos, and given that we suspected the “heat” was used to mask the questionable freshness of the fish, we rated this dish a near-failing “C-.”
(I will poke you if you dare order this dish!)
