A friend suggested that we try “Fabio The Venetian: Wine Bar & Restaurant” over in Oakland Park (Fort Lauderdale area).
Once we learned that there really is a “Fabio,” and that he really is Venetian — we were hopeful that his Northern Italian Cuisine would be “authentic.”
And what better way to test that authenticity than by trying his “Venetian Style Pizza,” made with “bakery fresh Italian ciabatta” and served on a “panaretto.”
We thought we’d keep our selection relatively simple and easy, and went for the “Stracchino e Rosmarin” — made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, stracchino cheese and fresh rosemary ($14.80)
If you like your pizza thick-crusted, (almost Sicilian-like), then this dish is for you. While we found the rosemary overpowering, (a little went a long way), we also thought the slices could have used a little olive oil (something) to introduce some moisture.
And because $14.80 was a bit much for six small, rectangular pieces of bread topped with tomato sauce and some melted cheese, this Venetian (pie) scored a “C+.”
