Have you ever eaten Venetian?
Believe it or not, you’ll find an interesting place in Oakland Park (in the Fort Lauderdale area).
At “Fabio The Venetian: Wine Bar & Restaurant,” the owner, “Fabio,” is a native of Venice, Italy, who proudly serves his customers “authentic” Northern Italian fare.
For our final dish, rather than go with the “Penne Pomodoro” — made with a “Homemade marinara sauce and fresh basil $15.80; add Meatballs + $5.00,” — our waiter suggested we try the house-made spaghetti, instead. (He wanted us to try Fabio’s “Spaghetti & Meatballs.”)
While the pasta was perfectly cooked, most of us found the sauce a bit bland, and thought it could have used a little more garlic, onions; something to spice it up a notch. (Same holds true for the rolled balls of ground meat.)
It clearly wasn’t as outstanding as some of his other dishes we had sampled, and also suffered from a heavy-handed application of cheese, but still managed to score a pretty respectable “B.”
(Even though I would skip this particular dish, when the weather permits, get out your gondolas, steer your way to Oakland Park, and give some of Fabio’s other pastas a try ....)
