The New York State Trial Lawyers Association congratulates Rowan D. Wilson on his nomination to fill the Court of Appeals vacancy created by the mandatory retirement of Associate Judge Eugene F. Pigott. It is particularly fitting that his nomination comes during the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday as Mr. Wilson will become the second African-American member of New York's highest court.
Mr. Wilson's addition to the court will advantage it with a judge possessing a demonstrated illustrious and diverse legal background. Rowan D. Wilson indeed exemplifies the best of the legal profession by his vitue of his multifaceted legal career, not the least of which includes his heading the pro bono legal department at the law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP where he is the leading partner.
NYSTLA's Judicial Screening Panel recommended Mr. Wilson to the Governor as "Highly Qualified and Highly Recommended," the highest rating available. Mr. Rowan's nomination will now go before the Senate Judiciary Committee for Senate confirmation.
