DSNY Salt Shed
Spring and Washington Streets
New York, NY
Description
The NYC Department of Sanitation's Foundation for New York's Strongest is kicking off Fashion Week with an unprecedented designer collaboration.
Heron Preston approached us with the idea earlier this summer as DSNY was establishing the Foundation, its new nonprofit organization educating New Yorkers to end landfill waste, highlighting our workers’ service to keep our City healthy, safe and clean, and one day, creating a new, educational DSNY museum.
Heron’s Vision: Create a ready-to-wear collection repurposing DSNY uniforms – a fashion line that keeps used clothing from decomposing in landfill – while celebrating the emergency responders who are often invisible to the 8.5 million people they serve.
The Result: UNIFORM, a unique fashion line comprised of one-of-a-kind pieces, to be presented at the critically acclaimed and closed-to-the-public Spring Street salt shed – a venue that the New York Times called “New York’s best new public sculpture.”
Known for his collaborations with Kanye West and years of design work at Nike, Heron’s couture will draw tremendous media coverage – from New York City news outlets to significant fashion publications.
