We are writing to introduce you to Judge Rita Mella, who is seeking election to the Surrogate's Court, New York County this Fall. Judge Mella is one of two candidates approved by the New York County Democratic Independent Screening Panel, and has the necessary experience in trusts and estates, and court administration and management.
Judge Mella was elected to the Civil Court in 2006, after serving as Principal Law Clerk to Surrogate Lopez Torres and as court attorney in various trial courts, including Surrogate's Court, Supreme Court, Civil Court, Family Court and Criminal Court. She has developed a reputation as an extraordinary judge -- for her work ethic, her fairness, her scholarship, and for the respect with which she treats every attorney and litigant. We believe Judge Mella will quickly earn the same reputation on the Manhattan Surrogate's Court bench.
However, campaigns for Surrogate's Court cost money. We are asking for your support. Enclosed with this letter is an overview of Judge Mella and an invitation to a fundraising event at the Harvard Club on April 3, 2012. We hope you can come and meet Rita. If you are unable to attend, a contribution would still be most appreciated.
