We’re pleased to announce that HAPPY AS LARRY, a feature-length film written and directed by Hugo Andre, will have its world premiere at the Dallas International Film Festival (DIFF), which will be held from April 25 to May 1, 2025.

DIFF – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts and culture organization – showcases a diverse range of narrative and documentary features, short films, and offers panels, awards, and filmmaker hospitality. Since its founding in 2006, DIFF has screened more than 2,500 new films from 60 countries, provided more than $1.1 million in awards, and hosted more than 100,000 filmgoers and filmmakers. This year marks DIFF’s first as an Academy Award® Qualifying Festival.

HAPPY AS LARRY is a dark comedy that follows an unfulfilled author who decides to embark on one last adventure in the Isle of Skye before his planned demise. The film captures the breathtaking views and mountainous aesthetic of the Scottish island, offering a visually stunning backdrop to the story. The main characters’ bickering and dysfunctional dynamic add depth and humor to the narrative, making it a unique and engaging work.

For our first year as an Oscar® Qualifying Festival, we have curated a powerful collection of feature, documentary, and short films. One particular highlight will be the world premiere of HAPPY AS LARRY – last year, the screenplay for that film was a semifinalist in our first-ever Screenwriting Competition, and it has now returned to DIFF as a completed film, a testament to the role film festivals like ours play in furthering the art of film.
