TRIED TO STEAL 5000 IPHONES FROM APPLE?

INTENDED TO CAUSE THE COMPANY A $3 MILLION LOSS

According to a press release issued by the United States Department of Justice, two Chinese foreign nationals, HS (33) and PX (33), residents of Germantown, Maryland, were convicted on February 20, 2024, of mail fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud for reportedly submitting over 5000 phony iPhones to Apple with the intention of causing the company a $3 million loss.

For about a two-year period, the two men sought to get imported, Hong Kong-made knockoffs (with spoofed serial numbers and/or IMEI numbers) replaced with real iPhones (as per the company’s repair and replacement policies which are typically reserved for legitimate devices).

Scheduled to be sentenced on June 21, the two men face upon to two decades in federal prison.

Those guys really should have knocked it off when they had a chance ….
