PATIENTS MADE TO PAY $28 PER SHOT
In mid-February, the New York State Attorney General’s Office announced that it had reached a settlement with Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care (Northwell-GoHealth) clinics to refund monies paid by patients for COVID-19 vaccines. The company also agreed to withdraw any charges that had been sent to collections, to strengthen its compliance with all laws, and to pay a $25,000 penalty.
[Apparently, the AG’s office discovered that Northwell-GoHealth wrongfully charged some 731 New Yorker approximately $28 per dose.]
In a written statement, AG James noted that “During the pandemic state of emergency, COVID-19 vaccines were free to all who wanted them …. Clinics should be careful in ensuring that New Yorkers were not improperly charged fees for these vaccines and should take steps to refund any payments wrongfully charged and received. I encourage anyone who believes they may have been billed for a COVID-19 vaccine that was supposed to be free to reach out to my office.”
