BOBOB'S TIRE COMPANY WAS HOSTILE TO HISPANIC EMPLOYEES

OWNER SUBJECTED GUATEMALANS TO “CONSTANT HARASSMENT”

Bob’s Tire Company – a used tire scrap and recycling facility located in New Bedford, Massachusetts, was recently sued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for “sexual, racial, and/or national origin harassment,” and for wrongfully retaliating against an employee who complained about the misconduct.

Apparently, the company’s owner harassed his Hispanic employees, telling them to “go back to [their] country” and calling Guatemalan individuals “f---ing Guatemalans.” He was also alleged to have worn an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hat and resorted to “homophobic slurs.”

And when an employee complained about sexual harassment, rather than take remedial action, the individual was mocked.

Believing that such conduct violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the EEOC filed suit in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts (Civil Action No. 1:24-cv-10077) seeking monetary damages and injunction relief.

In a written statement, Jeffrey Burstein, regional attorney for the EEOC’s New York District Office noted that, “Employees should not have to endure hostile or intimidating workplaces because of their sex, race, or national origin to earn a basic living …. Effective harassment prevention must start at the highest levels of management, as found by the EEOC’s Select Task Force on the Study of Harassment in the Workplace. The EEOC will continue to take action to ensure that all employees are protected and that employers abide by federal anti-discrimination laws.”

That's going to get really tiring.
