THE DONALD’S CHIEF ENGINEER GETS OVER A YEAR IN PRISON

LIED ABOUT OILY DISCHARGES

DK, Chief Engineer of a vessel known as the “Donald,” was sentenced in mid-September to 366 days in prison for “conspiracy to obstruct justice, obstruction of justice and failure to maintain an accurate oil record book.”

Apparently, DK allowed oily bilge water to be dumped into the ocean without being properly processed via pollution protection equipment or recorded in the vessel’s oil record book, He is also alleged to have obstructed the Coast Guard’s inspection efforts and investigation of the misconduct.

The ship’s operating company -- Interunity Management (Deutschland) GMBH – was ordered to pay a $1.25 million fine after pleading guilty “for maintaining false and incomplete records relating to the discharge of oily bilge water.”

Bet they wished they could have discharged those discharge charges.
