PARTICIPATED IN A $67 MILLION GENETIC-TESTING FRAUD SCHEME

DUPED DOCTORS INTO ORDERING “MEDICALLY UNNECESSARY GENETIC TESTS”

On October 6, 2023, J.G. (37) of Fort Pierce, Florida, was convicted for engaging in a scheme to purloin some $67 million from Medicare.

According to a press release issued by the U.S. Department of Justice, J.G. managed a call center that would target Medicare beneficiaries and their doctors. Apparently, the doctors were deceived into authorizing “medically unnecessary genetic tests,” and the “labs” which purportedly performed them were nothing but “shells;” with no equipment and no personnel.

Over the course of a one-year period, J.G. and others submitted some $67 million in phony Medicare claims, of which a whopping $52 million were paid.

Convicted of “conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering,” J.G. faces up to 20 years in prison for the conspiracy to commit wire fraud count and 10 for the conspiracy to commit money laundering count.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 21.

Will J.G. test the judge’s patience?
