MAN SET FIRE TO NIGHTCLUB BECAUSE IT WAS FREQUENTED BY “QUEERS”

SENTENCED TO 48 MONTHS FOR COMMITTING A HATE CRIME

On October 3, 2023, KG (26) of Sedro Wolley, Washingon, was sentenced to 48 months in prison together with 3 years of supervised release for his burning of a Seattle nightclub and event space which served the LGBTQI+ community.

Back on February 24, 2020, KG set fire to a dumpster behind the bar. Arrested within minutes after setting the fire, he allegedly told officers that the queer establishment angered him. He also supposedly said, “I think it’s wrong that we have a bunch of queers in our society.” And further admitted that he intended to cause bodily injury to those inside of the building because of their gender identity.

In a written statement, Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, “The defendant committed an act of violence targeting innocent victims inside Queer/Bar, a known safe space for the LGBTQI+ community …. Bias-motivated violence runs contrary to our values and violates our federal civil rights laws. This sentence should send the message that every person in our nation deserves equal protection under the law regardless of who they love or how they identify and that those carrying out similar acts of violence against the LGBTQI+ community will be brought to justice.”

Did you find his obsession queer?
