DA VANCE: STANLEY FREDRIQUE INDICTED FOR ABANDONING HIS THREE-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER IN WEST HARLEM RESTAURANT
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., recently announced the indictment of STANLEY FREDRIQUE, 34, for abandoning his young daughter in West Harlem in July. The defendant is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with Abandonment of a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. [1]
“Child abuse doesn’t always involve violence,” said District Attorney Vance. “In this case, Stanley Fredrique is accused of abandoning his young daughter late at night in West Harlem. I thank the good Samaritan who showed concern for her safety by taking her to a local police precinct before any further harm befell her.”
According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, on July 11th at approximately 11:30 p.m., FREDRIQUE and his 3-year-old daughter walked into a Subway sandwich shop on St. Nicholas Avenue and West 124th Street in West Harlem. FREDRIQUE purchased a sandwich for the child, sat her down at a table, and left. A concerned customer noticed the child sitting alone and tried to help her find her father. When they were unable to find him, the customer walked the child to the NYPD’s 28th Precinct.
The defendant was arrested the following morning in Brooklyn after he grew agitated inside a taxi and the driver flagged down an agent who sought police.
Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Clerkin is handling the prosecution of this case under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg, Chief of the Child Abuse Unit, Executive Assistant District Attorney Audrey Moore, Chief of the Special Victims Bureau, and Executive Assistant District Attorney John Irwin, Chief of the Trial Division.
District Attorney Vance thanked Detective Vincent Signoretti of the 26th Precinct Detective Squad for his assistance with the case.
