Mayor de Blasio Announces Over 93,000 New Yorkers Enter Lottery for Pope Francis Central Park Procession

Yesterday, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced 93,143 New Yorkers entered the lottery to see Pope Francis’ procession through Central Park on Friday, September 25. In total, 80,000 New Yorkers will attend the procession. New Yorkers who have received tickets will be notified between Thursday, September 10 and Monday, September 14 and will receive two (2) tickets.

“Pope Francis’ procession through Central Park will give tens of thousands of New Yorkers the opportunity to see Pope Francis when he travels to our great city this September. The overwhelming response we received from New Yorkers throughout the state made clear: Pope Francis is one of the world’s most important voices, and his historic visit to New York City will be an unforgettable experience,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “We’re grateful to the archdiocese for their cooperation in giving even more New Yorkers a chance to join in this historic visit.”

Between Thursday, September 3 and Monday, September 7, 84,023 individuals entered the ticket lottery online. An additional 9,120 individuals entered the lottery through 311. The lottery was open to all New York State residents.
