SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!

#BeCoolSaveFuel Dear Friend:

The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) would like to invite you to our Shut the Front Door Business Education Day on Wednesday, July 22nd.

During the summer, many businesses leave their doors open with their air conditioners running to entice customers to come inside, significantly increasing their carbon emissions and causing damage to the environment.

DCA enforces the City law requiring certain businesses to close their doors while the A/C is running. On July 22nd, we will be organizing hundreds of volunteers throughout the City to walk along dozens of business corridors to let store owners know that they can protect the environment and save money – simply by shutting the front door!

If our efforts that day persuade just 1,000 store owners to shut the front door while running the A/C, our City's carbon emissions will be reduced by a massive 2,600 tons, saving 5,000 barrels of oil. In addition, we will be helping each business owner to save over $1,000 on their summer electric bills.

Please join us, and share this invitation with your friends and neighbors. Together, we can take a significant step toward a more livable, resilient and sustainable New York.

Best,

Julie Menin
