Dear Friends,
This has been a important week of events for SAPE. Several of of you joined us at the Schumer invitation and petition delivery on Monday. Many of you filled the room for the press conference and presentation to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. We continue to work together to oppose the Spectra Aim project. Thank you for your emails, tweets, Facebook posts and phone calls to Senators Schumer, Gillibrand and Governor Cuomo. Keep it up!
To cap off the week, we are co-sponsoring a forum about Indian Point in NYC and hope some of you will join us on Saturday, July 18 from 7-9 p.m. at the Goddard Riverside Community Center at 593 Columbus Ave & W. 88th St.
Speakers: Catherine Skopic will discuss NYC Council Resolution #0694; Ken Gale will put the event in historical perspective; Tim Judson, Executive Director of NIRS (Nuclear Information and Resource Service) will debunk myths about the replacement power if Indian Point is shut down and will outline a clear path to replacement of the nuclear power without fossil fuels; Andy Padian will address energy efficiency, solar power and reliability; and, Paul Blanch will present "Risk of the AIM Pipeline and Failure of the NRC to Address the Risk." There will be time for a Q&A following the presentations.
