TIME'S UP FOR CITYTIME?

LIU STATEMENT ON CITYTIME TRIAL

Yesterday, New York City Comptroller John C. Liu stated the following on the trial of three men accused of stealing tens of millions of dollars from New York City while building the CityTime payroll system:

"With CityTime, gross mismanagement allowed consultants to rip off taxpayers to the tune of a half-billion dollars. The CityTime scandal should never have happened. To prevent future CityTimes, the City must do more to improve oversight of information-technology projects – such as the long-delayed and over-budget 911 call system – and stop rubber-stamping contract extensions."

Comptroller Liu's record on CityTime:

Jan. 1, 2010: Comptroller John C. Liu takes office, and makes the elimination of fraud, waste and abuse his top priority.

Feb. 9, 2010: Rejects additional contract related to CityTime.

Feb. 25, 2010: Initiates audit of CityTime project oversight.

Mar. 3, 2010: Calls on Mayor Bloomberg to freeze all payments associated with CityTime; appoints new representative from the Comptroller's office to the Office of Payroll Administration.

Sept. 28, 2010: Liu and Mayor Bloomberg announce agreement to finish installation of CityTime at no additional cost.
