GOING TO JAIL DIDN'T STOP HIM

Lucas, I was thrown in jail several times. But that didn't stop me.

I kept marching and marching throughout South Carolina, demanding the right to vote.

Sadly, I cannot remember a time -- even when I sat in the Orangeburg and Richland county jails -- when I experienced as much anxiety about the future of voting rights as I do today.

For 50 years, the Voting Rights Act stood as the single most important tool to protect our fundamental right to vote. Now that right is under attack.

Thousands of Americans fought, some losing their lives, to guarantee our right to vote.

We must make sure their fight and commitment were not in vain.

The battle rages on. Join me and add your name to demand Congressional Republicans act and restore our voting rights protections.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. set the course of my life.

He taught me that there’s no time like the present to stand up for what you believe in -- and that’s why I’m asking you to join this fight today.

Republicans in Congress are refusing to restore key provisions to protect the right to vote for everyone. We must send a clear message that we won’t allow discrimination or intimidation at the ballot box.

The job of government is to protect the rights of its citizens -- not completely gut them.

It is clearer than ever that we must never waver in our commitment to protect the sacred right to vote for everyone.

Please, don’t delay. Add your name next to mine and join the call to restore voting rights protections.

In solidarity,

Congressman Jim Clyburn
