Lucas --
Today, I hope you’re gathered with family and friends, and celebrating the end of summer.
But Labor Day represents so much more than that. On this day, we recognize the contributions American workers have made to the strength and prosperity of our country.
The early labor movement fought to ensure a safe and fair workplace. It is thanks to their struggles that we have protections like a minimum wage, a five day work week, and workers have have the ability to organize.
It was out of these labor struggles that the American middle class was born. Whether it’s our first responders, teachers, health-care providers, or the hard-working men and women who build our homes, roads and schools, the middle class is truly the backbone of the American economy. Today we reflect on the strength and ingenuity of the American workforce that makes our country great.
From my family to yours, Happy Labor Day!
