Lucas,
I hope that you will take this Labor Day to spend quality time with family
and friends. But I also hope that you will take some time to celebrate
and recognize the vital contributions that working families have made
and continue to make to the success of our country.
As Ventura County’s Congresswoman, I am continually inspired by
all who seek to secure a better life through hard work. I want to take
a moment to thank the workers at the Port of Hueneme who ensure that the
port continues to thrive, the teachers who mold our students into the
leaders and innovators of tomorrow, the first responders who keep us safe
and secure, the factory workers who use cutting-edge technologies to push
U.S. manufacturing to new heights.
But there are steps that Congress can take to strengthen our country’s
economy. We must increase the minimum wage so that all people earn a living
wage. We must fix our nation’s immigration system. We must ensure
that all workers receive equal pay for equal work regardless of their
gender, race or sexual identity. We must safeguard Medicare and Social
Security to guarantee that these vital programs are here for not only
today’s seniors, but also tomorrow’s.
Happy Labor Day!
